Pub operators and customers at The Wellington Hotel, Dalton-in-Furness have raised £8,000 for a range of local charities and services in recent months, including Sandside Lodge School, Furness General Hospital and St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston.

As part of ongoing fundraising efforts and to coincide with Craft Union Pub Company’s ‘Stomping Into Christmas’ charity fundraising initiative, the pub organised a music video with Sandside Lodge School which saw pub operators, customers, teachers and students sing to “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday” in sign language.

Lorraine and Mike Macaulay, operators of The Wellington Hotel, were two of hundreds of operators across the country to get involved with the campaign, and were determined to help raise funds for Sandside Lodge School. The special school caters for children and young adults between the ages of two and nineteen who have a statement of Special Educational Needs or Education Health and Care Plan.

The donations raised will go towards school supplies and general maintenance costs for students and staff.

The Wellington Hotel will hold a new fundraising event for the local community in the spring. The Race Night event, which will take place on 13 March, will see all proceeds raised go towards a number of local charities and services including St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston.

Lorraine and Mike Macaulay, operators at The Wellington Hotel said: “We are delighted to have raised £8,000 for local charities and services who all play such an important role here in Furness. As a Craft Union pub, everything we do is centred around the community and we are always looking for ways to give something back to those who need it the most. We couldn’t have asked for a better reaction from our locals and the wider community and it has been great to see how everyone has rallied together to get involved in our fundraising initiatives. Working with Sandside Lodge School has been particularly touching and we had a brilliant time filming the Christmas music video with the students and staff – we’re over the moon with how it turned out and glad that it has been such a hit!.”
